How to Drink More Water Daily

Journal Day 3 – How to Drink More Water

Recently I have only been drinking water when I get thirsty. Now that is several times a day, but I have noticed signs of mild dehydration. This is not something that I want at all! Darkening of urine, chapped lips, feeling sluggish and some others that just make life a little more uncomfortable. So I started to think of how I could drink more water.

When I was Pregnant

I am not sure how, but I remember drinking so much water. My doctor told me that I should always have clear to light yellow urine every single time I went to the bathroom, and I went to the bathroom a lot! So I thought that it was something that I was doing for my baby, so it just had to be done.

Not only was it good for the baby, but it was good for me as well. My body was the vessel that this little person as growing in. To make sure that environment was the best it could be, I had to do what was best for my body.

So why am I not doing it now? Such a good question. I know that I should. I know that it is what is best for me as a living being, and yet I don’t do it. I literally had this habit of drinking tons of water for over a year(I kept it up because I was breastfeeding) and then I dropped it like a sack of bricks when I stopped. Well this needs to change.

This Morning

I decided to change all of this. I want to be the best me that I can. Not only for myself and wanting to live a long healthy life, but also for my sons. I want to be there for them as they grow up and start their own lives. I want to hold grandchildren and enjoy my life.

I looked up how much water I should be drinking. There is literally no concrete place that says “You should be drinking X amount of water every day”. Despite being mildly disheartened by that, I kept looking. I didn’t find anything that could tell me how much, but I did find how to tell if I was properly hydrated.

Proper Hydration

I never measured how much I was drinking when I was pregnant, which looking back is a shame because I wish I had that information now to help me. Ah well. I have decided to do the next best thing; start over.

I know that the human body can need anywhere between just the suggested 8 cups a day to much more. It all depends on the environment you live in, what you do throughout the day, and your own body’s makeup. For example, if you live in the desert and have a very active cardio routine you do, you are going to need to drink a lot more water than someone who lives in San Francisco and stays on the couch all day. (Just a random example, don’t look too much into it)

So Where to Start?

I’m going to start right here. Every day I am going to make it one of my goals to drink 1 gallon of water. I might not make it to that much every day, but that is alright. We get water from many different sources besides drinking just plain water including the foods we eat and other drinks(even if they are soda, tea, coffee, or juice)

I will sometimes take sips of my husband’s drink(soda or tea, never his coffee) just to give me a different taste in my mouth. This helps to not only break up to monotony of just drinking water, but also helps my from getting my own glass of soda or juice which I know has a lot of extra sugar and calories that I really don’t need. When I do get some tea for myself, it is always unsweetened(I personally don’t like sweet tea).

How Did I Start?

I hopped on Amazon to find the coolest, most colorful gal jug that I could find! I am all about color and fun, so I know that this was going to need to be something that I would want to carry around with me as well as something that I was actually going to use. I copied the link below of the one I found that I am getting. I love the colors to pick from as well as the motivational sayings on the sides that make me WANT to drink to get the water to that level.

Now I didn’t want to wait for a delivery from amazon. So when I went to the store, I picked up a gallon of water from the water isle. I believe these are usually used as storage for drinkable water when there is an emergency. As well, I need one right now.

With my jug in hand, I got back home and will be drinking from this throughout the day. It’s not the most glamours, but it will do for now. I want to make sure that I get enough water in my system to feel the best I can and help myself in being the healthiest I can be.
